BRUSSELS, Belgium – January 13, 2014 – WABCO, a global technology leader and tier-one supplier to the commercial vehicle industry, today announced that KAMAZ-Master Team’s trucks for Dakar 2014 are equipped with a number of advanced, high-performance safety technologies from WABCO, supporting the Russian national off-road truck rally team on their mission to defend their championship title. At Dakar 2013, KAMAZ-Master trucks finished in first, second and third place marking an unprecedented eleventh time that KAMAZ-Master has won the Dakar competition, one of the world’s most challenging endurance rallies.
WABCO has been supplying KAMAZ-Master with pioneering technologies since 1997 and for Dakar 2014, the company provides KAMAZ-Master Team’s heavy duty trucks with high-performance air compressors, advanced pressure controls for the braking and tire inflation systems, and WABCO TRISTOPTM Cylinders, one of the industry’s most reliable piston-type spring brake cylinders.
Dakar 2014 is the rally’s sixth consecutive year to be held in South America. The rally kicked-off on January 5 in Rosario, Argentina and will conclude on January 18 in Valparaiso, Chile. Overall, more than 70 racing trucks crossed the starting line of the Dakar 2014 rally, representing 12 different commercial vehicle brands, including five trucks from KAMAZ-Master. The two-week route covers 9,188 kilometers (5,709 miles) in thirteen stages through Argentina, Bolivia and Chile. Drivers cross the Andes Mountains and race the Salar de Uyuni, the world’s largest salt lake before venturing in the Atacama desert, commonly known as the driest place on Earth.
